Is there a brighter light to use in the dash other then the 1816 for the instrument panel light ?? Before I put it back together.. Have a 67 coupe since 1972, Don't fill like doing this again..

The best thing you can do is make sure the inside of the I/C is clean along with all the light filters and lenes. Also make sure the fluorescent green backing paint is in good shape

You can use brighter LED bulbs for instrument lighting. They work great. Search for posts.

I tried some of those LED, the ones I purchased would not dim. And I thought they were to bright. So I installed 1416, two times brighter than 1816 and will dim. The glass is bigger but it will fit in the whole. Here is data on the 1416. http://www.donsbulbs.com/cgi-bin/r/b...-electric.html

I used [4], 64111 halogen bulbs , placing them in the 4 lowest sockets in the cluster, [small gauges, tach & speedo] and [2] in the clock mount, for AC & heater controls. Would not recommend using them in the clock, even with orig. movement [ plastic gear on reset] Additional Amp. draw is negligible, I was pleased with the result, there was just enough extra illumination for the Tach & Speedo. an the small gauges and AC controls are nicely illuminated

My LEDs do work with the dimmer. LEDs can be much brighter and use less watts. Last forever and won't rust, bust, gather dust or melt in your pocket or so they say.
64111 is bulb ID number, various mfr.Sylvania, Osram and others, many dealers, even Wal-Mart ,Google 64111 halogen bulb an pick source. 5 watt, 12 volt, BA9S base, 6.7cp , 1816 was 2cp. discontinued 1817 was 3cp. To be on the safe side [heat] I only used them where indicated, Installed 2 years ago, result was everything I wanted
Here are the specs on the 64111 bulb. If you don't drive your car very much it would be a good choice, it's a lot brighter then the stock 1816 bulb. Life of the 64111 bulb is only 200 hours. The 1416 is 1000 hours and is also 8cp. http://www.donsbulbs.com/cgi-bin/r/b.pl/64111~usa.html
