Default need help with C1 steering column

Does anyone have pictures showing the upper section of the steering column without the steering wheel installed and or the directional signal switch. Also would like to know how far the inner steering shaft goes past the upper bearing. I'm modifying an old c1 steering column to be use on a resto and what I'm working with is all in pieces,
I don't know how much shaft is suppose to be expose pass the upper bearing on the top to mount the hub and wheel.

This is a file photo so I can't measure it for you. I have 3 C1 columns here on cars but they're all together now. Maybe the pic will help.

Are you trying to shorten the column? I did one for a buddy a while back.

I cut the shaft and removed a section, drilled and tapped the ends for a 5/16" stud. Beveled the ends, installed the stud to both ends and welded the shaft ends together. Ground the welds a bit to clean it up.

Then cut the equivalent section from the column tube and beveled the edges and welded that together. Dressed it with some grinding and sandpaper and done.

I installed a collapsible section to my 57. It makes the length adjustable. and safe in an accident

Thanks for the picture, It helps.
Yes, Something like that, I have taken the lower section of a C4 and the upper section of the C1, I slid the C1 inner shaft into the C4 inner shaft. It fits perfect. I have about a 2" in and out adjustment.
So I can move it in or out as desire but I need to know how much to leave out at the upper end to properly mount the directional switch, Hub and steering wheel. If I had the measurement from the upper bearing brass housing lip where it sits on the outer tube to the end of the threaded area would be great! I didn't have the C1 steering column assemble when I got it or else it would have been easy.
The inner shaft does have a dark area which I believe is where the upper bearing sat.

The original poster is modifying his steering so he may also be interested. It is a great one from the safety aspect.

I used a rack and pinion, but you could simply cut the column and place a bearing inside the column and support the column at the firewall and instal the telescope between the box and bearing. You can pin the shafts or cut flats on them as necessary.
