Linda Vaughn was under exclusive contract with Hurst long before and long after the "shorty-shirt and bell bottoms" pic was taken. She answered an ad placed by George Hurst in major car mags around '65 or '66 AIR. Title was "We're looking for a girl".

There should be a forum rule that for every new thread on pertronix vs points, what oil to use, etc, a thread like this one is required!

The car itself may have been one of the early hemi-powered Colts that were being built for the drags around this time.

She was the girl friend of 1970's funny car racer Gary Dyer. He raced for Mr. Norm's Grand Spaulding Dodge, she may have worked there.

There is speculation that she was a Playboy Bunny and her name I think was Gail.

I think she still does work for Hurst. She was at SEMA for them a few years ago. I know that for a while in the 70's and 80's, she promoted Gratiot Auto Supply, the large speed shop out of Detriot. I seem to remember that she was related to someone there?

In the early 60's, before becoming "Miss Hurst Golden Shifter", she worked as one of the first NASCAR trophy girls.

Somewhere around, I have a Polaroid of me with Linda Vaughn. It's from around 72 and I was about 18. She was at the speed shop (Ben Pilla in Bellmawr NJ) signing autographs and taking pictures.

You are correct. I should of said near north-west side of Chicago. Growing up on the south side, I guess I always thought everything was on our side of town. But regardless, just about everywhere in and around the city was only a short drive away. Mr Norm raced about every weekend at Rt 30 Drag Strip, which was south of the city. My friends and I often saw their cars run there. Their ads were always playing on WLS.

The last time I drove through the area by Mr Norms's I was headed to "Little Poland" to interview for a live-in caregiver for my parents. It's been a few years since then.

Thanks for keeping me straight.

Can you provide a link between Linda and the pic you posted?? I find it difficult to believe given the time the pic was taken (early 70's) and where Linda was at that time in her career. Of course, having the pic associated with Mr Norm does make it more plausible.

100% that is not Linda Vaughan. See post 30.
