Default ignition shield question

I am considering removing the right side horizontal (spark plug cover) which is a one piece shield on my 63. I was thinking of going back with the 2 piece style that was used on the 64. Does anyone know if the 64 style will fit on the 63 without modification?

No problems here.. Changing plugs is a chore. I could not get the cover out completely to get to the front 2 plugs on the right side..worked 3 hours taking things off to get those front 2. I am removing the exhaust manifolds to do a little clean up restoration and thought this would be a good time to explore the 2 piece option

There shouldn't be any reason you couldn't adapt the two-piece shielding to a '63. Worst case, you might need to slighly re-position the shielding support brackets which attach via the exhaust manifold bolts.

That one-piece shielding truly is a pain (often literally) to R&R.

Thats sort of what i was thinking too since it is same engine. BUT...knowing the one-of-a-kind stuff on the 63 I thought i would throw it out there to the guys with more experience with the 63 than me. Thanks to the forum I have learned a lot and appreciate all the passed on experience and knowledge here

I think the only thing changed are the supports that attach the shielding. Use the 64 supports on that side, the passenger vertical shield is the same as 64 up so the hole and j-nut should work fine.

I don't have words for the process to remove that shield to service the engine and it's hard to believe it actually got engineered like that.

It's tight working in that area with the expansion tank, heater hoses, battery, plugs, ect. and the 2 piece shield makes it a lot easier to remove from the car without having to take other stuff apart for clearance. Better access certainly improved serviceability.

I installed my engine with that one piece shield in place. I checked the plugs once and that was the last time that one piece POX was on the engine.

I used the '64 two piece stuff in it's place. I don't think I had to change anything to put the new shield on. Don't remember.
