Jerry, What is an Autogear M23 and where do I find one. Oh and how much
That is what I'm running and all the Vette's in our group Garrett. Just search autogear.net It's a beefier Muncie with a case they build for strength. About $2,400 with shipping.
My understanding is that you also need a new clutch to deal with the spline difference. Is that so?. please let us know how you like your new trans.
As I remember, the Autogear Muncies are available with either a 10 or 26 spline input shaft. If you get one with the 26 spline shaft, the ONLY thing which needs to be changed is the clutch DISC, NOT the whole clutch.
If built right with the new updated gears M-22s are great transmissions and work well. We still use the M22 that my Father raced in the 70s. We have good HP and they handle it will. Although, the Autogear trans is a nice piece, but not cheap.
We ordered ours with a 26 spline input shaft which is the same as our old M22, so should be a direct bolt in. We just got our engine back yesterday so we will find out tomorrow. When it test fit our rear yoke, it slipped in a short distance and then stopped. I contacted Auto Gear and they said that they us a 32-spline test yoke measures 1.886 on the OD, which is standard size. I measure ours and it is 1.900, so it is at a machine shop getting cut down. They said this has happened a couple of times with aftermarket yokes.
