Default Engine Removal

Project creep is taking over! I removed the front suspension and rebuilt it. Before reinstalling it I want to clean up the frame and engine compartment. I am also going to replace the radiator and now want to remove the engine and detail the engine compartment.

How hard is it to remove the engine from the transmission or bell housing and replace it? I am more worried about the reinstall and lining everything up.

I had my engine/transmission out a number of times in the past 2 years (lots of issues with the new transmission) . . . if you're going that far, I'd suggest pulling the engine and transmission together as a unit - it's not that more difficult or involved. That way, it's much easier to line the transmission up to the bellhousing with everything out of the car. Hope this helps!

Happy Holidays!

Tom
Thanks but I was trying to avoid this as I just got the shifter(trans mount), speedo gear and driveshaft right. Also my lift will not give me much room to manuver either. I was hoping someone had some tips to just pulling the engine w/o trans.

Engine is only held in by 13 bolts total Not that hard. But while the engine is out it would be best to pull the oil pan and timming cover and reseal and inspect everything.

Note the lift that has limited room underneath for a cherry picker. I have no front suspension aat this point.

Here is my thought. Get your suspension all back together. I don't see trying the engine removal without the car being movable. Slide the lifts out of the way, get the engine crane in place and do the job. Dennis

I pulled the engine out of my 66 leaving the bell housing and trans in and reinstalled w/o any problems. If I can do it so can you , go slow and have extra eyes and hands when you reinstall . hope this helps . Jeff
