I don't know how much of it is accurate but I believe the paint color in question on the models listed is accurate.
Interesting information. I know the "red/orange argument" for 55-57 has been going on for years. I never knew which is correct for each though.
When I was just a kid, I worked at Grampas Shell gas station and I opened the hood and checked the oil on a lot of 57 Chevy's but I don't remember ever seeing one with a chartreuse engine.

There wouldn't have been many of them so the odds don't favor having stumbled across one.
The not-orange 265s were always mated to a standard transmission. If an owner specified a base V8 with an automatic transmission, he/she automatically got a 283 which was orange
Also, sometime in MY57, they stopped painting 265s yellow/green/whatever and painted them orange, like the 283. This change, of course, further reduced the probability of seeing a not-orange 265.
The picture below is of an unmolested 265 from late in MY57. The residual orange is unmistakable.

Jim
Great picture. Thanks Jim. That looks exactly like the one I removed from one of my 57's in about 1963.
So you are saying the 265 engine in yellow color that matches corvette numbers is something you don't find often. I stumbled across one in my father's shed. The only thing missing on it is the intake and carb. I took the heads off because the engine is locked up. Cylinder walls so far, look good. Anyone looking for one of these? Located in SE Nebraska.

265s were not used in Corvettes in '57, only 283s. Also, all '57 283s were Chebby orange.

OP, you are responding to a thread that is six years old. The original poster is now deceased as well. RIP Roy. I would start your own thread with your questions about your possible interesting find. Good luck.
Ok. I am new at this and will post a new thread. Soo sorry about posting to a 6 year old thread from Roy. Sounds as if he was a great guy.
Thanks for your much needed advice.
