Default C1 rear window run liners

What the hell is wrong with some of these parts suppliers?

They have been selling the same material for rear window run liners for C1 cars for more years than I can remember, and the material still will not work!

I last bought a set about 12 years ago, and since that time, have been fabricating my own out of thin, self-adhesive felt from Home Depot. Well, I am restoring a 57 now and decided to see what they sell now for liner material. Needless to say, it the same stuff that they were selling over 15 years ago. Those of you who have relined C1 rear runs know exactly what I am talking about, as the material they sell simply is too thick and the window will not go in the run with the liner installed.

I sent Paragon an email years ago, and sent them another again today, but I'll bet they are still selling the same material years from now!

OK, I am now through venting!

Please don't stop venting. You speak the truth. Those window run liners suck. Evidently the parts suppliers don't care. As long as they are making $, evidently that is all that matters.

Consider using a strip of Velcro. It worked well on my 60 and certainly is tough enough for the application. I used the fuzzy part, not the hook side.

I used black felt I got at Jo-Ann's or Michael's on both of my 57's, and it worked fine; that was in 1993-95, when they were still selling the stuff that's too wide/thick and doesn't work that they sell today.

Exactly what I used on my '62. Worked great, been on there almost 2 years now.

Hi John - After reading a lot of threads that warned about the 'too-thick' channel liner material available from some vendors, I tried a couple of the suggested thinner versions from the local JoAnn's Fabrics. I started out with Black Flannel which was quite thin, like .020 but found it to be a bit 'too' thin so I went back and picked up some Black Flannel which was available in more than one thickness but found one which measured out to around .040. Yes, it's safe to say the staff at JoAnn's doesn't regularly see customers coming into their store with a dial indicating vernier but hey, it worked so why not?
It wasn't that I went looking for material that came out to .040 but after finding the .020 flannel was too skimpy and the thicker felt was in the neighbor hood of .070, the .040 stuff did the trick.

For the past 15 years or so, I have been using some green felt that has a self-adhesive back on it. They stock it at Home Depot. The only down side is the green color, but a black magic marker or some black dye at the top inch or so of the run will hide the green color. The only reason that I bought some from Paragon, was because I did not think that it would be possible that they would still be selling the same crap they did 15 years ago, but I was wrong!

Well, I got a call from Paragon today in response to my Email to them. A very nice gentleman called and said that they had been using this rear run re-lining kits for years and have never had a problem with the material being too thick. I told him that I had never had one where the material worked. He tanked me for my input, but said that they were not going to change anything.

I got mine from CC and it was to thick too. I pounded a socket into the channel to spead it a bit. Then a friend that worked in a gm body shop said they spay a silicone spray on the felt and let it dry. This helped it slide better.
