I'm having the same issue you're having, Stan, so let us know how you resolved it. My issue didn't start until I went to an aluminum manifold. Evidently the resistance is different. I couldn't stand to have my restored gauge read 195 when IR temp said 175, so added a 15 ohm resistor, but I don't like it!
Well...back to square one.
I ordered a Ecklers sending unit (mfg. by Lectric Limited) that is advertised to be accurate. It wasn't, at least on on my gauge..which is freshly restored and calibrated. ( all of them were.)
I sent it back today. I already have one that works as good as it did.
I guess I need to try an original NOS from E-bay or get Wilcox to rebuild one. Neither is an inexpensive option.
Soo..I'm undecided what to do at this point.
More to come...maybe?

I bought several brands and took ohm readings at various temps. Didn't find any that was acceptable. Finally went the inline resistor route. Guess C1 owners are screwed.
I've been following this thread hoping you would find an answer. Let me know if you do.

Looks that way...
That what I love about C1's, some of the simplest parts are made of unobtanium..Lol!
Well... I bit the bullet and bid a ridiculous amount for a a new old stock #1513321 temperature sending unit on e-bay. ($168.15)...and feel lucky ...or something anyway?
Crazy huh?
I just can't stand to have spent over a grand on refurbishing my gauges...and not even have an accurate temperature gauge when I'm done!.
So what's another hundred or two, right?
NOW...if it that will just fix it???
If it doesn't I may have a "barely used",(15 minutes..?) new old stock temp sender for sale ...lol!

Wow, Stan! I understand, me also. When are you going to try it? I'm very interested.
Four or 5 days maybe ...or just as soon as it gets here.
It won't take 15 minutes to install it and get the engine up to operating temperature.
I have a new mechanical gauge installed in the intake by the thermostat housing on the passenger side. (... laying by the carburetor to take accurate test readings).
I'll post the results ...

Got the NOS temp sender today..looked used to me, but it's 55 years old, so who can tell for sure.
Of the three I've tried this one is marginally better ...but not perfect by any means.
Temps show to be about 12 degrees higher on the dash gauge now...than on a new mechanical full sweep dial test gauge.
At least this sender doesn't show to be 20 or more degrees higher than the mechanical gauge like the others....and they both seem to show the same spread between temps from low to high operating temps.
That will have to do I guess...at least it seems to be a consistent difference at all temp ranges...and isn't pegged at 200(+) when the engine is only 180 or so degrees.

I would be happy with a 12 deg. variance! Based on your experience, I just bought a NOS (I hope) sender off EBay also. I'll let you know what mine does.
Finally got around to installing this original sender I bought off EBay. A little beat up but it works! It was expensive but worth it. Got rid of my inline resistor. I took it out today at temp of 82 deg. Gauge stayed right on 180. Did a sustained run at freeway speeds and temp went up to 185, maybe 190. I'm very happy. Can finally close the book on this problem.

I Have never been a Fan Of the stock Cluster gauges. It's slide rule tech from back in the day. The only gauge that comes close is the Tach.
I have an Under hood Jegs mechanical temp gauge in the thermo housing and a Separate mechanical Oil pressure gauge under the hood. Also have a Stinger Volt gauge mounted on the Plus Bat terminal.
If something don't look right..I'll pop the hood and check it. Otherwise others have had no problem and their gauges read close enough.

Hello Norm,
Congratulations...Glad to here your problem is finally resolved.
I wish mine had worked out as well as that....but its better at least.
