I think they read from pre-prepared queue cards with salient "facts" about each car. Sure sounds like it, the stuff you read out of coffee table car books.

Oooh I smell a thread drift coming on.
My 61 Plymouth has but 3 maybe four fuses, my 56 Caddy has 6.
British electrics are controversial. I've opined mightily over that on the Hemmings blog which has a vast international audience. Some say Lucas was no better or worse than Valeo, Magnetti-Marelli or even Delco & Autolite.
I say...they were worse.
They had a penchant for bare wire ends tightened down under screws not unlike house wiring but since house wiring is not exposed to water, fumes and temperature extremes it didn't turn green and fail as often.
Yet the Brits loved elaborate electrical systems as evidenced by the wiring in a RR Silver Shadow, which had a drop-down fuse box rivaling anything found in a new Audi or MB S Class. The car had relays that activated relays before activating the thing the driver wanted activated, and they liked using diodes across all the relay coils to shunt the reverse EMF when they were de-powered. The repair manual goes on and on about the diodes....unbelievable.
Getting back to BJ's, that is the kind of thing no-nothings spout off on, British? Bad electrics. If they knew anything interesting about English cars instead of the cheap lore that abounds, they would say so.
