Default 67 steering wheel

Im having trouble with horn on all the time after tele column rebuild..
My question is I have a nice 66 steering wheel on it now and suspect it's the problem....I do have my original 67 wheel I do see the spacer at 6 o'clock on the mounting surface...is a 67 wheel the only one that will work?.....the old one is cracked in 2 places and I ill be looking for a replacement or rebuild this one.....who does this type of work?

That's not your problem. It's in your horn contact

I can tell you right now it won't make a diffreance. But it's only 6 screws for the wheel and 3 for the contact.

This would be my first thought.

First you have to determine if you have the right horn contact/retainer. You said you're using a 66 wheel, but are you using it with a 66 hub, or with a 67? 65-66 tele columns use a different contact, than 67 tele's, and I don't know that the 67 contact will work in a 66 hub.

Are you using any contact shims, under the contact? The contacts sometimes need to be shimmed, especially when switching steering wheels.

As far as wheel interchangeability, 67 and 68 wheels are basically the same. All 67-82 wheels have the same spoke shape and bolt pattern, so all 67-82 wheels should bolt to a 67 hub. The exception to this would be the 4 spoke plastic "Vega" wheel, that was used on all 76's and 77-79's with a straight column.

Keith...i dont know....i sent it to a restorer.....I wasn't in on the parts used....just dealing with whats here in front of me .....so when I search for steering wheels ....I see 64-66 advertised..blah blaha....and 67's listed for 67 only...thats why I asked about the difference in the wheels....I also saw something about the SPACER one person advertised his 67 wheel complete with SPACER...maybe I dont have all the parts....I have been into my AIM but maybe it's in the option portion of AIM...

Do you have the correct 67 hub? Dimensionally A 64-66 wheel is the same as 67 except 67 has the steep in the bottom spoke.

To the best of my knowledge its a 67 tele....I've only put a 66 steering wheel on this 67 hub and column....I will contact the vendor to determin contact ring...and no ....on the shims...are your shims your refering to like small flat washers that could be used ...? or something specifacially designed for that application spot?.....and tx for the in put

It has to be a 67 column. A 66 WILL NOT work in a 67 without some modifications

Theres a notch in the hub for a 67, so using 66 wheel on a 67 hub would raise it probably 3/16'' and not make true contact with the brass plunger..

Am i wrong in this aspect?
