It's easy. Take the old cable/housing off. Insert the new cable ONLY into the pump and turn it to match the distributor. Remove the cable. Then put the new cable in the housing, taking care not to turn the pump. Gently turn the cable until it drops in the drive gear in the pump. Push the housing further into the pump and stick the cable into the distributor drive. Tighten the nut.
You might post where you are getting your new cable. Some are made correctly and are reliable and some aren't.

When I bought the car, I got 3 extra cables with it. What will happen if the pump gets rotated???

Nothing serious. You just won't be able to push the other end of the cable into the distributor. If that happens, just turn the cable and pump a little bit and try again. No biggie.....
Be SURE you liberally coat the new cable with grease (I use wheel bearing grease) before you slide it into the casing. How much grease? As my dear Mom used to say, "Too much is not enough".
Simple procedure, remove the cable housing and leave it off. replace the cable which is now exposed into the FI pump and the .... distributor.....You only need the housing for NCRS shows, the cable is completely exposed....That's all you need is the cable to make the FI function, not the housing.
I have had 4 FI cars and did the same to all of them... (90 % . of the lookers don't even know what they're looking at anyway.....

Well, I did that a long time ago, I wrapped the engine real quick and the drive cable became a pretzel. and jumped out of the pump. I still keep it to this day as a spare but only to be used in case I break one. I wouldn't put if back in a housing.
Now, the racers back then used about half the outer housing. They used the end screwed on to the distributor but cut the housing off halfway to the pump. I understand that worked well but I never tried it. I've really never had a cable problems in 50 years of running them.
But, there are cables out there that are not made correctly and they will come apart, quickly.

Thanks, the 61 had a spare in the glove box but I did not know about the grease. It is a good thing the 61 has a real trunk as we keep adding essential items to add for this falls trip. Can you suggest a good cable supplier? A friend with a 62 fuel injection carries three spares also.
As mentioned above, the cable can be changed by the light of matches from a matchbook, at midnight, in Washington crossing state park in Pennsylvania. However, the point about lubrication is critical!! Also, you CAN (and may) use ONLY the cable just to get home. BUT, as mentioned, about 5000rpm, that cable WILL absolutely pop out of the distributor and leave you with a a dead engine, in the oncoming lane, while trying to pass a car. Call DeGregory about the cable, and use LOTS of lube.

Not a bad idea to clean the inside of the cable housing with a small brush. There are small metal shards inside the housing that lead to premature failure. THEN use the grease. Don't run with housing, system is designed to use housing for cable support and damp oscillations.
