Default 63 steering damper

Are the repros worth a hoot ?

The shaft on mine is dinged up and the rubber bushing is cracked and brittle. One way or another it has to be addressed

He already got dinged for the A/C.

Why not just got all the way.

Seriously though you might want to talk to some of the guys that rebuild shocks.

I have run my car, before P/S conversion for well over 20 years without it. Never made any difference. Dennis

Frankie,
I got mine from Bair's Corvette and installed it two weeks ago. I think the one I replaced was the original one and it was nasty. The replacement fits perfectly and does what it's supposed to.
Had it to to a tad over 100mph (on a closed course, naturally) and it's rock steady.

Post with my original one is here:

We took it out today for a 50 mile highway blast to get some heat in it...

Good luck!

I was offered a complete 63 power steering system for a 63 by a forum member; and it would pass judging. I've never felt the need for it in the 63 or the 61...
Repro damper is on the way and I'll look into getting the original rebuilt.

I will interested to see how the rebuild goes - mine could use some new rubber. I have looked and not only can I not find replacement rubber, I am not sure it is a do it yourself job!

Good luck and keep us posted!

I installed P/S unit off a burned 63 convertible on my 63 coupe and I really like the assist. Also installed one on my 67 and I feel it's the best add on you can install and maintain the factory look.

Most times you can pick them up at the Carlisle show fairly reasonable.

Frankie:

In my experience the remanned steering dampers work fine. As far as your shaft beong dinged up if they can polish the shaft smooth you shouldn't get hit for a core charge.
