Default Where do you live?

OK, maybe just a minor issue. Why do some members not list where they live?
Not a big deal here, but in the "for sale" section I would think it would help! Especially when your trying to sell a large item.
Ya, I know you can just ask. But how difficult is it to just have an address it under your name?

OK, I feel better now

I can see maybe not your actual address but at least the state and hopefully the town or city.

Might be that some members are still in the "witness protection program".

If they are looking for something, its easier helping them look. Its easier if you know they are in Pennsylvania or Oregon. I have seen many times guys say ( Thats the car I have been looking for) but on the wrong coast. It helps the person helping you.

Helps me make up my mind if I'm interested in something your trying to sell!

Not asking for your complete address. But I think at least the State may help.

Because, it's nice to know where fellow enthusiasts are from, and sometimes you find people close enough to meet with.

And your town, and or state is hardly personal info......

I agree with not posting personal info on the interweb is smart, but listing the state poses little, if any risk. You can sometimes gain some perspective of a posting based on what Part of the country they live in.

Why not just make sure the state or foreign country of residence is on EVERY poster's ID?

Please add Southern California to mine!

City/state at a minimum. Can tell you a lot about a member's challenges when he's asking about car issues. Somebody in Denver can have a lot different fuel problems than somebody here in Central Florida. Other times you can perhaps recommend a local bodyshop or painter if a member is in over his head if you know his whereabouts.

It helps with things like that.

Because there's no reason to force members to post personal information they don't want to post. This subject thread pops up periodically, and the site has not decided to make people input their location.

If someone is making a Sales or WTB thread, they could (and should) provide a location for people at that time. If they are asking for info relevant to location they should do so as well. But if members do not want their location on every post, we respect their choice not to make them provide that.

Regarding adding your location, hit your screen name which will take you to your profile page. Hit "User CP" and then "your profile." Open "edit your details" and you can input your info there.

I agree with this post. Although I like to see where forum members live and encourage people to add this to their profile, I would not want to see the forum make it mandatory.
