Default 4 Speed shift console plate

I need to know what font that is correct or closest to what NCRS considers correct. The one on the console is what failed. Thanks,Bill

As important as the font, if not more so, is that fact that the numbers and "H" pattern are embossed (debossed?) in the metal plate. Most, if not all, reproductions are basically a silk screen on top of the metal surface...all of these will fail flight judging

Well if 1967 is the same then this is what the JG states: "The shift pattern is de-bossed and silk screened in black on a small brushed aluminum plate indented into the console behind the shift lever." Here is a photo of mine, sorry about the shifter shadow, but the de-bossed areas are apparent, and you can feel this when touching the shifter pattern area

A sign shop with a CNC router should be able to replicate that for you, but they would need an original to make the copy from.

I would send a PM to forum member Dave Cunningham, he is in the sign biz and might be able to give you some insight.

The first shift indicator plate in your post appears to be for a 63. (unique to that year) That plate was quite different than the one for 64-67. The 4-speed plate was available for 63 but never available from GM for 64-67.

The NOS ones are not correct either as the font on those are thicker than OEM plates. This is a good example of how NOS does not necessarily mean that it is the same configuration as an assembly line part.

Check out the difference between original vs. NOS and repo. I found this picture on the NCRS board.

The one in the center looks like a 63 (only) plate. The 63 plate originally did have fatter characters and pattern.

That is correct. We're not comparing apples to apples here. We need to exchange the center one for an NOS 64-67 plate. I think I have one in the box at home, but I'm in FL at the moment. Bill

I don't think there is such a thing as an NOS 64-67 4-speed indicator plate. I've never found one listed in any old parts books.

The only one that I ever found in parts books was for a 64-67 with 3 speed.

The part number for the 4-speed indicator is probably shown in any 64-67 AM but not in GM parts books or price schedules.

I don't know why it was never available.

It could be that the NOS version which was correct for 63 is the only version that was used a service item.
