I would put a C7 next to the 64 in the garage in a heartbeat if I didn't have 2 kids looking at college, etc. It really would be the best of both worlds. I drive the 64 every chance I get, but the hp the new cars are producing is quite astounding.

Of course all the responses you're going to get are speculative and anecdotal. Just too many variables. Here's my contribution along those lines.

I paid so much for my '67 that it would be tough to get all of my money back. HOWEVER . . . it was the car I wanted all my life but had to wait until a point in my life where I could afford it without jeopardizing family finances and retirement. In all likelihood, I will never sell it so it doesn't matter to me.

In 2014, my wife bought a fully-optioned 2012 Grand Sport with 1,900 miles. The original sticker reads $75,000. She paid $54,000. She bought it from a dealer so the original owner probably ended up with somewhere around $50,000 or less when he sold it to the dealer. That's a $25,000 drop in just 2 years so you can see where it's headed value-wise.

Neither one of these cars are investments. For most of us, our cars are toys and recreation. In monetary terms, the return on your investment with either of these cars is not cash but the enjoyment of ownership. For me, when I look at and drive my cars, I never think of money.

BTW, I just turned 70, so the value of my cars 10 years from now is kind of a moot point to me .

Property Tax??

And I thought Cali Sales Tax at 8.5% was expensive...that's just silly! That's like $200/mo tax on owning a new car? Hell with that! (I guess the math is about the same but damn.....)

In 4 years he will have paid over $8500. When you add in the depreciation plus the taxes it really adds up to a financial loser. When you buy a C2, you may lose on the repairs and any upgrades but you can get most of your money back when you sell it. In Virginia, vehicles with vintage plates are exempt from property taxes. I did have to pay sales tax on it when I registered it but that is a one time fee. Btw, the sales tax on a new Z06 is $4000-$4500.

In 10 years the C2 owners will all be 10 years older and 25% of them dead. They are already old. Don't count on any increase in C2 prices in the next 10 years which means a depreciation in real $$.

10 year old corvettes are worth what % of MSRP today? It's pretty low. I'd guess $15k or less on the C7.

Thanks for all the advise, but I'm not buying the c2 for an investment, I'm buying it because i want one. I just thought it would be worth more in several years.
What many of you are saying is no one other then us old guys want these cars. Makes me wonder what the average age of people that want these cars is. I'm 64.

You are about average. I'm 61. I haven't bought any of my 5 antique cars for investment, just for fun.

I wouldn't say "no one" but as the years pass, the number of buyers decreases. Many years ago I restored a 57 T-Bird for my wife. I was a member of the Classic Thunderbird Club International (which had many more members than the NCRS). At 50 years old, I was a baby compared to the others. Most were 70+ and the conventions were riddled with walkers and wheelchairs. Now, the majority of those members have passed on and the prices for 55-57 T-Birds has dropped considerably. The same will happen to all years of Corvettes. It's already affecting the prices of C-1's.

When Russia or China hits us with one of those cyber laser beams that knocks out all the computers you can go pick your son up in your C2 and give him a ride to work.

I wish it happened for 55s. I looked at an advert a few months ago for a 55 not a show car which is OK with me. Apparently the $100k some have got for a 1st flight and the other couple advertised for $175k+ makes sellers think a wrong color, missing rare parts, and in Canada is worth asking $80k for! I got to thinking I can get a split for $80k and it is a 60s car not a 50s car(the older the car the older the buyers). After that thought my interest in the 55 slacked off significantly. Maybe I'll wait for the estate of 1955 copper....

C7s have been out long enough to be common here in coastal Southern California. '53-'73s are again bigger draws!
