65 396 bb
Im am looking for some help identifying my engine. My dad bought a 23 Tbucket with we were told a 1965 427 corvette motor. It has an Offenhauser cross ram. The engine numbers are T0511IF 5117839 on the front of the block. 3855962 block number. everything ive seen shows as 396 but I believe this is the 425 HP version. head number 3856208 HI PERF. rect. port
Is this a corvette motor? thanks for the help.

Haha right. thats Outstanding
Hi Mark! General rule is that any old chevy engine found in any old anything HAS to be a rare Corvette motor! In this case, however, if your engine pad (photo would be nice) is an original stamping, then you actually do have a Corvette engine. The IF suffix identifies the 396cid 425 engine which came with a 4-speed and transistor ignition. It is specific for the 1965 Corvette. The VIN derivative identifies car number 17839 which could be a coupe or convertible, and would have an approximate Corvette birthday of May 19, 1965. Your engine build code of TO511 identifies a Tonowanda engine built May 11, 1965, which fits very well with your car number. The heads case 3856208 are correct rectangular port hi-perf for 396/425 engine. The block cast 3855962 is correct for 1965 396 engine. Your engine would be a very very valuable addition to car #17839 if you can find it, or the owner can find you

It don't take much to get a 1500 pound car going. That BB is just over kill and eye candy. Perfect for any hot rodder. But to the right person that engine is worth some good money if you want to sell it.
