Soooo, I'm thinking of putting headrests in my 65 coupe. I have been made aware that there is a difference between the 66 and 67's. The 66's are "more puffy". Can anyone give me insight on to which one they would recommend? Anyone have experience in this ? So far I'm leaning towards the 67's. Any input is appreciated.
thanks,
Larry

I have a 66 with headrests, replaced them uncomfortable pushed my head forward, 67's looked like an after thought by GM. Went with 68/69 headrests look good and comfortable, someone on this forum made the recommendation to use 68/69 headrests. However you need to get a different mounting bracket, I was lucky found a pair for $25.00.
Hey 6T5rush,
They seem to lean forward quite a bit. Is that a problem?
Larry, I have a 66 with headrests. The foam is thicker than a 67. Best to look at pictures of them in the car. Can't really tell anything when the seat is sitting on the floor. I don't believe the angle is any different between the two. The white one is 66. The blue is 67. See the difference in thickness? Bill

Bill,
The 66's look very nice. Are the comfortable?
I want to do this on my 65 as well, although I have a bunch of things to sort out before I get to headrests. This is great information, I prefer a more reclined head rest.
Like my interior exactly. If you look at the front (head side) of the pads, the 66 are no farther forward than the 67's. It just appears that way because the 66's are so much thicker. Bill

I have had both '66 and '67 cars with headrests. I am 6ft tall and I can not tell either design while I am driving the cars. More of a decorative thing than a functional item for me. I do like the way they look though.

I agree that your height can make a difference with headrest seats. I'm 6'2", but I'm sure if a person is less than 5'6", the back of their head may be pushed forward a little. Headrests are primarily a safety design to minimize whiplash if someone rear ends you. Bill

Very nice looking interior, Bill. Thanks for the pic
How difficult is it to install '66 headrests on a '65 seat?
Fairly easy. Need to buy the support frame that needs to be welded to the inside of the seat back frame. And of course the headrest insert itself and the chrome escutcheon that goes around the hole in the top. Most of the suppliers like Paragon, Corvette Central, Zip etc will sell you the whole kit.
