I have seen nylon distributor shims advertised as well as metal ones. Are nylon ones OK to use for the drive gear to take out end play?

I've never seen nylon shims for this purpose. For 40+ years, I've always set them up with metal shims with approx. a free-play of .020. I'm sure IE has way more experience than I.

I've never seen nylon distributor gear shims either. I'd stick with what's known to work(steel shims) rather than experimenting with the unknown.

Me either, nylon would be worthless, your .020 would got to .040 very fast,

Thanks for your replies. Just was curious as I've seen the nylon shims on Jegs, Moroso, Mr. Gasket and had no experience with them. I'll stick with steel!

The nylon shims you see are to be used at the base collar where it mounts against the intake manifold. These are used on decked blocks or machined intakes so as not to impose any end force on the drive shaft of the oil pump. Don't get them confused with the shims used at the bottom to remove any endplay in the shaft.
