Default '56 dipstick

Have a Bubba'd dipstick in my '56. Searched here but no help. All the parts houses list dipsticks for '57-'62. What is different about the '56? Can I use a '57-'62? Maybe a '55-'57 passenger car dipstick? Not worried about NCRS correctness, just having the correct oil level. The outer tube measures about 5-1/4" sticking out of the block.

2nd design.
Thanks!
Correction: the tube is about 6 1/4" out of the block. Is this about right?
The Bubba'd dipstick measures 19 1/2". If I have the correct tube won't the '57 on dipstick (21 1/4") show me being overfilled?

Second design is the same as a 55 Corvette dip stick and tube ,which is only 55 and later 56 design. If you have a 265 with out a oil filter . Vary hard to locate try Tri-five.com. There forum is for 55 to 57 car only.

Can you measure the length of the late '56 dip stick for me? Also, how far down for the full and add marks and the length of the tube above the block? I think I have the correct tube.
Thanks!

Who are you asking?

I have an absolutely original 56 passenger car dipstick. I cannot recall now if it is the same as the 2nd design Corvette dipstick.

I will look that up when I get home today.

I was asking 1955 Copper, but if you could measure that would help.
Apparently the late '56 is unique-maybe a '55 is the same- but info is tough to find. I can see the dipstick tube is not the same as the '57 type.

The 1st design '56 stick is all by itself. p/n 3722960. Measures from cap to full 17 37/64". 18 27/64" to ADD mark
The 2nd design is the same for 56-57 Pass as well, p/n 3722959. Measures from cap to Full 19 31/64". To ADD: 20 7/16"

This is a 1st design stick

This is as good and close as I can do=
tube=6'1/2
stick=20'1/4 to the stop
To the full mark= 2'1/2

In 1957 it was a 283 engine
1955-56 Corvette was 265 engine the hole for the tube to fit in the engine was smaller,also making the stick narrow'er then a 283 engine
A 283 tube and stick will not work for a 265 engine
Does this help ? you do have a 265 engine?

Sorry VWGUY a car 57 will not work for a 265 ENGINE

Here is what I'm working with. Looks like it's too short. I have a 3722959 on order. When it comes, I guess I'll have to drain the oil, and reinstall 4 qts and see if everything works out. 4qts is right if I don't change the filter, right?

May be a replacement but has the correct casting number-3720991.
One other thing I can do is take a ride up to Ecklers- they are local, and check their 56-57 passenger car dipstick listed in their Tri-5 catalog.

I was going by the parts book applications for the stick. I guess sometimes they are inaccurate.

I cannot find any reference to a 5 1/4 inch oil tube in the P&A catalog.
I am wondering if someone trimmed that tube down for some reason.

Over the years many older parts were and are superseded by # newer parts , many will work replacing the original part but not the original design looking part.

I am aware of that. I should have looked at my '58 P&A instead of my '63 P&A which is right near me. Sorry

I had mis-measured. It actually is about 6-1/2" out of the block.
