Help decoding a carberator
Helping a friend decode a 1966 Nova, L-79 motor, the carb has a holley list-1850-3 and under list # is 2649. With metering block 1086 and there's a 3 on the metering block also.

That doesn't sound like an original carb. The 2649 code indicates it was made on the 264th day (in September) of '69,'79,'89, or '99.
PS - that's a model 4160 carb, 600 cfm. They were a pretty common after market replacement.

Yes, the 1850-3 is a rather basic performance carb - internal float adjustments and so forth. It performs fine with a little tuning but it's not a high performance carb. I'm not sure when the 1850 was introduced but I suspect the date code is in reference to 89 or 99.
