Default '66 T.I. harness in '65 396 car

Maybe a fundamental question to some but have a '66 T.I. harness that was included with my purchase of a used correct distributor for my 396 '65 car.

I think I have figured out how to wire this to my new dash and engine harness with one wire to cut from dash harness to ballast resistor and replace with female that plugs into T.I harness based on wiring diagram from Lectric MFG.

My question is that my understanding from forum posts is that in '65 the T.I. harness was black to positive and white to negative on the coil but in '66 was other way around?
Not wanting to burn out a new amp module is how do I proceed in this case?

Thanks inadvance!

I don't remember the TI harness for my 66 being that expensive. Buy the correct harness and put the 66 one in the classified ads. Do you have the hardware for it - the various terminations that have to be switched out on the engine harness? If not - then it's of little use to you anyway.

Yes but by all appearances they are the same, plug into the same amp module and distributor, just the coil connection is different?

A 1965 t.i. harness goes down the passenger side of the car and the t.i. module is mounted to the radiator support
In 66 they moved the harness to the driver side and the module is mounted on the inner wheel well front fiberglass
I believe that the wiring is the same for 64 and 65 but changed in 66
On a 1965 harness the black wire goes to the positive coil and the white wire goes to the negative side

good luck!

Not sure you are correct on your statement that the 66 was mounted on the inner fender. Mine was mounted on the drivers side core support just behind the headlight bucket. I went out to look at mine to make sure I was correct. It is possible that they made a mid-year location change in 66. Maybe someone else will know.
