The interior rear view mirror on the 66 is loose on the ball mount. Every bump sends it down a little until I am looking at the gas cap.
Other than a repro replacement, is there a repair method? Doesn't have a snap ring to hold in the mirror. Standard mirror, not day / night.
Don't know if it is original, but has the right date code.

Set it and add a drop or two of blue loctite
Same with side mirrors . Repeat after a while if you move mirrors a lot
I fixed one by using a pointed punch and hammer. There was a small ridge around where the mirror ball goes. I put the tip of punch in the ridge and tapped it lightly with the hammer. Did that in two or three places around the circle/ball, and it was enough to tighten it up. Yes, there were little dents from the punch, but they were not noticeable on the back side of the mirror and it was better than buying a new one.
I think Dennis is thinking the joint were the screw is but it is the ball in the back of the mirror.
Right now I have the mirror held up by adjusting the screwed joint almost all of the way up. Works, but I haven't put the top up yet to see if it is too high to see out the back glass. Shot a pic.
Think I'll try Jackfit's Loctite idea first. Sounds like it should work if I clean the wax off first.
If that doesn't work, I'll go with the punch idea Blackbird recommends. Just hoping I don't smack it too hard.

Just do it at night or make sure you give it 24 hours to set
Lok Tite should do it; some use super glue. There is a lady that rebuilds mirrors -- she's usually at the Florida NCRS Regional but I don't think I saw her there last January...
If you've lost the little bent sheet metal bushing that goes in the hole in the mirror arm (UPC 1-Asm, sheet E5), it doesn't matter what you do - the mirror will never tighten up.
R66 is still setting and Loctite drying, no final determination. Took the 68 for a cruise today. Mirror on the passenger's was fine until the "DOOR SLAMER" got in. Not as bad as it was, but very little can with stand the strength of a woman. Trying Shoe Goo, maybe it will flex enough and still survive. If not, out come the hammer and punch.
More later.
PS don't tell me to correct the real problem, the price is toooooooooo High.

Most rush the setting process and drive too soon....try again...and don't drive for a couple of days....

I guess that is what I did as the R66 mirror is now good. Even adjusted it slightly when we took it out today and it is still holding. On the 68RS Right side Rear View mirror on the door, it worked for about 16 miles to go get gas, but would not withstand the door closing. I put some SHOE GOO on it with a toothpick and left it overnight. Couldn't move it today. Glad it was adjusted right for this short fat bald old Grandpa (quote from the boss).
PS the boss read the email about the door slammer. I am going to be paying for that one for a month or two. Some people don't have a sense of humor.
Thank you ALL for the help.
I've been having the issue with the side mirror. I'm a bit hesitant about using blue loc-tite only because I'm afraid it will get all over. Is there any special method people have used when doing the side mirror?

Park car on level ground so you can adjust mirror. Loc-tite comes in a droplet dispenser . Just one or two drops . Put rag under mirror if needed. Do NOT drive , let it dry at least 24 or more hours

The first time, I took the mirror off after adjusting it to where I wanted it. I applied the Loctite and wait only about 16 hours. It didn't hold when the door was closed.
The second time, I left the mirror on the car. I took a piece of duct tape and punched a hole in it about 1/2" dia. I used a punch from a gasket punch set. I cut from the top side of the tape to the hole so I could fit it around the ball on the mirror. Then applied the tape, and double checked the adjustment of the mirror. Also put a rag, visqueen, or something on the side of the car to catch any drips. Applied the goo and waited overnight.
As Jackfit and others have said, using Loctite you may want to wait more than 24 hours or also reapply as needed.
Shoe Goo is holding tight, but I have not attempted to adjust the mirror and it may loose it's bond if I need to.
Come on guy's. This isn't rocket science. I did this to my outside mirror on my 60 when I bought it 42 years ago. It worked perfectly for the next 10 years before I decided to do a body-off resto. and replaced the original mirror with a repo.
