1965 396 l78 425hp coupe
Hi Guys
I found a 396 coupe in Glenn Green. Has 327 in it currently. Was stored in heated storage from 1979. Has a 327 in it. Runs & drives like a 63000 mile car. Appears to have had 1 repaint early on. Listed in NCRS 396 study as real L78. Interior is mint original. Paint has some scratches.
I run a Corvette Shop in MN Boos Performance. This is the most original mid year I have seen. The body mounts are nice. The bolt threads aren't rusted. It seems to nice to restore except the old paint. I'm struggling to put a value on it.

I can't help with the value, but I'd like to hear more about this "NCRS 396 study". First I've heard of this.

John - It would help if you could supply some detailed pics so we could help ballpark a value for this 65. Does the seller have any paperwork to offer? The easiest ones to estimate are the bone stock Corvettes and changes to original drivetrain, options, colors, etc, always have a deduction involved so post up some pics.

A verbal description will not work. If you value the expertise from CF members, please use a good camera and shoot close up quality pics. Dennis

Someone in a current thread has a 65 Impala 396/425 engine that they are trying to figure out what to do with it. Maybe you two should get together.

I would guess that this is a survey done by an NCRS members years ago regarding some aspect of the 1965 396/425 HP cars. He might have just wanted the VIN Numbers, or perhaps the engine build stamp code. or ???
Some folks have done similar things with the FI cars.
It could also be in Noland's C2 Restoration Book as a listing of the 1965 396 cars and when their engines, etc were built. My own car is shown in the 1967 area for VIN, engine info, etc.

If the '65 396 cars are anything like the '66 425hp cars, then there's a host of other items specific to it. These other items are very hard to find and very expensive, so not putting any value on them is just silly.

I'm no NCRS numbers guy, but I have worked on over 1200 vettes & know when 1 hasn't been messed with. This thing is pretty untouched other than engine & paint prior to 79. I bought it a few weeks ago. Planned on putting a 396 back in it. I have had a few things go bad lately & needed to round up some cash. I asked because last minute I decided to go to local large GM show with a for sale sign. I have 3 offers hi is $55k. Sorry about lack of pictures been awhile since I posted & thought you still had to have pics hosted which I don't. When I have more time I will scan the 396 study.

Isn't worth what you paid for it a couple weeks ago???? Green on green is going to be a tough sell. If you found a buyer and it's close to what you have in it buy all means unload it
