Yours is looking good, Ray! All you guys in the body shop make me glad I finally got driving! In some ways painting in February seems like an age ago! Now if I could just get my windshield stainless back on...

Took the weekend off but worked a little a little this evening, glassed in the exhaust opening in the rear valance tonight.

Trying to get it ready for paint by the weekend, BB hood should be here Wednesday, ordered chambered exhaust today and electric cutouts. I'll try to get some more progress pics posted up.

The side pipes are "Sweet-Thunder" and the exhaust cutouts are from Badlandz, we are going to install them in the horizontal section just in front of the side pipes, they also have a small elbow that bolts to the cutout to direct the exhaust toward the outside of the car.

They are just wired to a rocker switch in the car, so you can open and close as you like. Have them on the '33 street rod and they defiantly raise the cool factor at events when you are pulling in or out.

Here are a few pics of the progress, shop is a huge mess, should have all of the repairs completed tomorrow night, excited to see the BB hood on it tomorrow.

I also got new valve covers in last week, haven't cleaned up the engine yet, but thought I'd set them on it to get a feel for how it will look. It's a ZZ4 350 with tuned port that's been powder coated black. Defiantly wouldn't be my first choice by its literally a brand new engine with less than 800 miles on it, that we pulled from the '59 restomod. It should have plenty of power for the '66 with power glide.

Got the hood in today, had it bolted up in about 15 minutes, couldn't wait to see it on the car. Amazing piece, huge thanks to Bill McGhee for an good deal on the hood and quick shipping. It was still in original packaging from Sermersheim's press molded, could not be happier.

Bodywork coming together, still shooting for paint next week, I hope.

Another long afternoon/evening sanding but all of fiberglass and dynaglass are complete, and gel coat shot, gonna spend tomorrow getting shop cleaned up everything else from this point on will be wet-sanded so dust will be tons less.

Going to try and get the gel coat blocked and the entire car in primer, gonna use red oxide for the effect on the sand through areas. Then use a satin clear similar to the finish on the '33 ford.

Getting excited see the paint go on next week, still shooting for paint next week.

Here are a few more pics... And a few of the '33 Ford

Glad you went with the BB hood. Laguna Blue is a great 66 only color. I'm a big fan of the factory dark blue metallic colors on C2's. They flop nicely and at times look black. Good luck with your build.

Great project, great progress! Since you are installing side pipes, consider adding the panels to the inside of the doors. They were standard in 65. I added them as well as sound deadening material to the interior. The additions will keep the exhaust drone down to a tolerable level. Keep us posted. Jerry

Spent the day today cleaning up the door jambs, then hosed everything down in the shop. Planning on blocking the gel coat then mask and put in primer. Ready to get it one color....

Finished masking tonight, primer tomorrow wet sand with 400 tomorrow night. Seam seal, final mask Wednesday and paint Thursday.

It's tough fighting the urge to make it real nice, but that's not the plan. I want it to look 50 years old, just the right color and without the bad body work.

Rigged up straps to hang the doors from the lift to paint them.

It's been a few days since I saw this- holy cow!!! I love it. The 66 BB hood is the most attractive one they ever made in my opinion.

We shot the primer early this afternoon, and after 6 hours wet sanding it's ready to be cleaned up and prepped for paint. Prepping tomorrow then mask it back up and spray the Laguna Blue at 6am Thursday morning then that afternoon sand a few places thin, and lay down the matte clear.

Then I get to put it all back together....

Well it was a long day today, we sprayed the base coat at 6:30 this morning, then around 2:30 we sanded through the base in quite a few places to replicate years of use and shot the matte clear. It turned out a little flatter than we hoped, so we will lightly wet sand the clear with 2,000 grit and buff to get just the right about of sheen.

I know most will think I'm nuts for working three weeks to make something look worn, but that was the plan.

Here are a few pics, heading to the lake for the weekend tomorrow afternoon, I'll update again next week once we start buffing it out and putting it back together.

I couldn't stand it, ran out to my shop before heading out to the lake yesterday & tried sanding and buffing a spot on the exhaust panel and also just buffed the rear quarter, and the blue seamed to wake up. Gonna give the whole car a buffing without sanding first then decide if it has to be sanded, the good thing is we can control the amount of shine we get from none to a lot.

Ready to hang the side pipes on it next week!
