Gee, what if he is the original owner of his car and needs to get the block decked, and has taken photos of his engine pad to verify it's originality?

Then he needs to find a new machine shop that knows how and when to deck a block

http://engineslimited.com/cms/ Many, many, many Top Flight/Bloomington Gold cars have engines from Randy with zero deducts for the pad.

Hadn''t heard of that shop before. Interesting that he works with NCRS in order to get his machine work up to their judging standards, including broach marks.

Smart move. Apparently a large number are driving cars with re-stamped blocks of varying quality anyway. Kind of hard to fault someone for wanting to join the crowd. We don't get overly excited over date-coded replacement glass, replacement radiators, or repro exhaust manifolds - just engine blocks. Unless he tries to pass it off as the assembly line installed original engine - I don't care. And the fact that he or a successive owner might just underscores paying a high premium for a supposedly original motor is a very risky and possibly disappointing endeavor.

My cars have "matching numbers" just because that's what was in them when I made my purchase. I didn't go out hell-bent, loaded for bear looking for matching numbered cars - not my first priority in a purchase... And, anybody buying a matching numbers, big money BB without documented provenance back to Moses deserves what they get...

Just because a pad does not receive a deduct does not necessarily mean that it is not undetectable. Just sayin.
