Default Timing Marks

OK...so this is my first time at trying to set the timing on my '61. It has the base 283, 230hp engine. The manual says that the timing should be set at 4 deg BTDC. When I look at the timing mark indicator I can see the 0 and what appears to be an "A" slightly above the 0 deg mark. My question is, as I look at the indicator is BTDC above the 0 mark (towards the "A") or below it. Thanks

Towards the A. The small horizontal lines are each 2 degrees, so if you want 4 degrees advance then adjust the timing so the timing mark on is flashing on the second mark above the 0 towards the A and be sure that you are checking timing per the manual at the proper RPM and with the vacuum advance disconnected and the hose plugged
