I am working on a frame off restoration on a 66 and after 5 years im ready to install the new front springs. its been too long i want to verify
i am installing the spring in the right position. The coil is tighter at one end than the other and i would think that would go toward the top. in the frame pocket. thanks for any help, alec

That's correct - with the midyear progressively-wound standard coil springs (#3851100), the end with the closely-spaced coils goes at the TOP, inside the spring pocket in the frame. This is noted in the '66 Assembly Manual in UPC 3, sheet A4, where it's also noted that the end of the spring is to be indexed at the top, to within 3/8" of the spring stop formation in the top spring seat. The hole in the concave formation in the lower control arm is for moisture drainage, NOT spring indexing.
