Default Dist. Date code

I have a Delco-Remy 1110891 dual point distributor. It has the outside oil fill and std rotor (small). The date code on the plate shows: 3A24 Not being that familiar w/GM distributors. I can figure out the date was January 24 but the first number stumps me. It sure looks like a 3 but, if so, what year? Try as I may under a microscope it still looks like a 3 but could be a very light stamped 8 on the left side making it a '58. Could this be a valid date code (3A24) for an early dual point Chev distributor or a very lite stamp of the first digit? If it
Is supposed to be a 3 what year would the unit be. Thanks for any info. Jerry

The "891" was last used in 1961. If it's actually a "3", it's a service replacement.
