shipping cost
interested in buying weather stripping kit for my 1962, prices are good for labor day specials. Best is Ecklerstherbut they want $ 22,00 to ship within Florida. To far to drive to pick it up. Can"t see driving there withprice of gas. Any suggestions how to not pay $22.00 for a $150,00 item. All the companies are about the same. Any sugg how to win.

This is not an area on your car to go cheap.

Corvette Rubber
Here is another vote for Corvette Rubber. Does the, in state price, also include Florida sales tax? If you live in Florida and the vendor is domiciled in Florida, you get to pay the 7% sales tax. Paying it only makes sense if you can pick up the item and save on shipping. Jerry

I have often wondered about "shipping and handling" fees.
It seems to me that "handling fees" including the cost of the box, should be part of the cost when selling a part and should not be a separate line item. It always appears to me as a way to make the item seem lower in cost than it actually is. It implies deception to me.
As far as shipping, actual cost should used, not a factor of the value of the part.
Why should a $300 part, that is the same size and weight of a $10 part cost more?
I would love to hear from a seller on this topic. (anonymous of course)

same kind of nonsense when you go to car dealer for maintenance or to buy...
shop supplies, disposal fees; these should be part of the 'shop rate', but they're added on....
and then there is the $600 'documentation' fee for preparing the sales papers, title application, tag application.
all just extra PROFIT

They had to do all the paper work over to reflect the total, less the $600.
It was more work for them, but it made me feel good!

Zip is also good. They had the correctly shaped and properly pliant upper door-to-roof ledge molding for my split window. All the other stuff was crap...

I ship a lot by UPS.
Cheapest rate for 1 pound, local is about $8.
Cross country for 1 lb is probably $12. That is to a business.
Add residential that's an extra $3.
Rural delivery is an extra $3.
insurance on a $300 item is about $2.
So, a 1 lb $300 package to a residence costs me anywhere from $13 to $17, IF it isn't rural,
and i never find out its rural until i get back charged, so i automatically add that $3 in the first time, if the customer is a repeat, and isn't rural, it will show up the second time I ship so he gets break the second time..
And I forgot, UPS now is real **** about box size, you can get raped if the box is too large for the poundage, based on what they think the box size should be, you can get nicked for an extra $10-$15 just because they think the box is too big, a 48" long box cost $10 more to ship than the same weight 47.5" long box.
Shipping isn't cheap.
Now handling charges, if you walk into store any buy something you bought it and walk out with it, if the company has to box it up to ship, I don't think $5 for a box and handling is unreasonable.
if it is strictly mail order business, the price has to be competitive with everybody else and they may, or may not include handling in the upfront price.
yeah, you can probably ship it cheaper by post office, but their tracking system sucks, it is mostly just useful for filing claim.
