I have every issue of "Special Interest Auto" by Hemmings from issue #1 until they switched to "Hemmings Classic Car" and every one of those through current issue. Kept them at work until I retired.
Cruisers & gear-heads would stop in my office, ask "Whatya have on a 19** (model)? I'd look on the master index, dig out the issue & they'd go down to the XEROX machine & make copies.
A few years ago I saw an ad in Hemmings asking $350 for the full set of SIA's...
I got tired of moving them around and tossed them a couple of years ago. Playboys are next!
I have dozens of boxes of magazines that have no value. There is absolutely no interest in old magazines at this point.
The Revs Institute here in FL gets several calls every month offering complete sets of Road and Track magazines.
When I used to take my car to local shows... (67 February build Car that was originally shipped to Coco Florida) I kept a 67 February issue of Playboy and a few other period mags in the Car's passenger seat... Along with a 67 Mobil Map of Florida
It was amazing how many folks asked to take a look at the magazines (one was more popular than the other!)
I picked up sets of vintage magazines from the 60s and 70s and would take a box around at the shows and if I had month/year that another car was made, I just give them the issue(s).
I don't think I ever paid more than $1 for any of the magazines... and giving them to fellow corvette enthusiast generated 100X that amount in good will.
As I side note, I also have picked up Sears, Montgomery Ward, and JC Penny catalogs from the era. I remember going through them when I was a kid to make my Christmas list... But they are invaluable now to me to check out the clothes and ephemera of the era.
A few years ago I tried to give away hundreds of Vette Vues, Keepin Track of Vettes, Hot Rod, SuperStock and Drag Illustrated, and Corvette News, some that dated back to the late 60's. I eventually had to just toss them. Originally I thought I might be able to sell them for a nominal amount. When that didn't work I tried to give them away only to just throw them out. It seemed a shame.
