Recently my tach stopped working with the needle stuck on 2500. Can I assume that it is an internal gauge issue and not a cable or dizzy drive issue?

Take if off at Dis. and check...
Then you'll know if its the cable...then go from there..

That is easy enough to check i guess, assuming my drill is charged up.

There is no mechanical connection between the cable and the tach needle. The coupling is entirely magnetic and depends on the rotation of the cable to exist.

If the tach needle is frozen on any RPM, the tach mechanism has a problem.

That was my assumption, that the gauge needed to come out for inspection.
