57's used an ink stamp.

59s also ink stamped on side of case. Not visible when installed, of course. Original stamps have usually faded over the years and can be very faint to read. When you have a tach restored, the restorer can restamp in ink with the date of your choice. No need to try to find a "matching number" tach for your correct restoration.
