where to find original radio
hi there,
I am looking for a radio in my 66 coupe.
I first wanted to buy a repro but when I saw these come at a price of 600 dollar I changed my mind. Because a restored one will probably cost 300 till 400 dollar. But where to find a restored one?
I already have seen the one on ebay but I think it's a little high priced for its condition.
hope you guys know where I can get one.
Thanks

I found 3 of them on kijiji,,,, it is a website like craiglist,,, but in Ontario Canada
prices are in Canadian $$,,, so you would save at least another 30%
I do not know any of the sellers

the one from the first link looks pretty okay only problem it's a 65, so I would need to change the ***** to 66 and I will get close to the 600 dollar for the repro, and then I would rather go with a repro.

Just read an ad on San Francisco Craigslist for a C2 repo. May I suggest, what I did on my 1959. Full size Chevrolet, either 58 or 62 which looks like a Wonderbar. Sent it to a shop in PA (there are others too) where it looks original until turned on. Now has most modern features/connectivity though maybe not the sound quality as I have 2 kick panel speakers and a dual cone where the original was. So, maybe an original look with modern capability.

The repros, albeit the same money, are now based (from my research) on the venerable Aurora, solid-state component board with embedded Bluetooth and even voice commands from the driver. This circuit board is nearly infallible and will prob outlast you. The repro radios are only two inches in depth as well so installation is a breeze; especially if you have air conditioning.
So, think about it some more and make your decision...

I have decided to go with an original one because what kind of radio I will take it won't be heard because of the sidepipes, and in that case better stick to the original.
Buying a core isn't an option for me because I will first have to pay 50 dollars to ship it to the netherlands, arriving in the netherlands customs will charge me 25% of the radio's value + shipping. after I received the core I would have to sent it back to the US for another 50 dollars to get it restored.... you know where this is going.
and letting it be restored here in europe isn't possible because most people here don't even know what a c2 is. and parts all need to be imported.
for these reasons I will wait until a nice restored 66 radio will be offered for sale.

Maybe you missed or didn't understand what Nowhere Man said in post #11. What he is saying is, find and buy a good core in the USA. Then have the seller of that core, ship it to a well respected restorer here in the USA. After the restoration is completed, have the restorer ship the restored radio to you. I thinking waiting to find a restored 66 radio will be a long wait. Also, you don't necessarily need a 66 radio, other C2 radios could work, just change the *****.
