In this case, I'm searching headlight switch removal. I'm looking for a quick alternative to the special nut removal tool...
I’ve used needle nose pliers, putting the tips in the slots and twisting the pliers to rotate the nut. I also suspect snap ring pliers may have the same effect.
Don't pull this crap in a reply ever again. How can one find the "first post" if we are searching a topic and come to this thread instead? At least kindly provide a link to your previous reply. Please be helpful in every situation for the future reference of others... even if YOU think it is repetitive. Thank you for your consideration.

Whoa, hold up there Big Fella.
You are responding to a 7 year old post.
In all likely hood, the OP asked the question, got an immediate and accurate answer which he did not like and made another posting in which he asked the same question again.
If you rummage thru postings made on 10/6/2016, I bet you'll find the OP's first posting and the answer he got.

Thank you for the quick reply! I tried the needle nose pliers trick. It worked OK for the wiper switch, but the light switch nut was too tight for that. I found a small flat file that fit though - and turned it with the help of a crescent wrench. Worked like a champ!
I will buy the proper tool, along with some other items I need before reassembling. Looks like Zip has one that fits both the light switch and the wiper switch...
If someone asks the same question two or more times and ignores my thoughtful and accurate prior answers, I tend to get unapologetically testy. I'd bet a meaningful sum that's what happened in 66jack's case.
