Did any one here go to the auction near Pottstown Pa. on Saturday for the 63 cp? I am always amazed at what people will pay without looking very hard. It looked good in pictures. 63 cp wrong motor, wrong trans and shifter, side pipes, old crusty repro wheels, 20ft paint, rusty not rotted frame, hit in the back, both sides and front and very poor repair on all spots. $57,000 They where lucky it was raining and the car was outside, good move. I guess if you bought it and just want to drive it that's OK but to fix it up correctly it will take another $60,000 and now you have a $120,000 300 hp wrecked split?

Seen it before...
There are lots of people with more money than sense and when the booze starts flowing and with a trophy wife egging you on and testosterone poisoning against other bidders - anything can happen.
HOWEVER $57K and another $100K to restomod it and make the body right and you have a car that might go close to $200K. Last Mecum a restomod split I saw in Mike Coletta's shop went for $190K and it would have been more but Mecum didn't give it the presentation it deserved...

it may be a fool and his money, but it may also be someone to who the difference between 50K and 100K is not significant. Add to that the guy who is rolling in excess cash may not likely have the time or interest in the arcane science of matching parts. He just wants a toy.
Not defending these types, just acknowledging them. That and avoiding indulging in envy.

I'm guessing it's probably a local dealer, not Chevy dealer, but one of those xyz ones. They probably think they can sink 25k into it and then flip it for about 95k.

This one had No booze, no woman, just fools at a home in Pa that the owner died. You are right the same car resto mod could bring stupid money with a Roadster Shop frame they have been in the $300,000 range. Once again buyers are not educated in the different frames out there. It makes a big difference in resale, between a quality frame and a round tube or light gauge cheaper frame.
I was there, it's a good 20 footer, driver. Frame and bird cage both looked good from what I could see. Bidding stalled at $50,000 almost hammer down, then $500, bumps between two bidders, till $57(I thought it went for $56, what ever).I figured a $15,000, premium for being a split, take that out and it's in the $35 to $42 range for a driver. There was no buyer premium. Chip

I was able to view the car weeks before on the lift that he had there. Bird cage was good but the frame, like the body was not good, poor job of straightening. I like a lot of others wanted to get it for around $35,000. You are right if it where a 64-67 $20,000 tops.
