Default Another Engine ID ?

Hey Guys,
Can anyone decipher this engine pad number?
T0905DNH It came out of an El Camino. I am pretty sure it is a 305 C.I. I don't think it is the original engine to the car. The date code is J2477 which it think is Sept. 24, 1977.
Any help is appreciated.

Larry

Are you sure about the date code? is it J2477 or J2467, or perhaps J2466?

J = October
24 = 24th day
66 / 67 / 77 = 1966 or 1967 or 1977

T = Tonawanda
09 = September
05 = 5th day
DNH = engine suffix code

My issue with this is that the engine assembly date (September 5th) is well BEFORE the block casting date (October 24th).

Please confirm the block casting date, and perhaps provide the block casting number as well.

What year El Camino did the engine come out of?

Follow up...

Assuming alll of your information is correct, then the most likely scenario is that the engines block was cast Oct 24, 1977, and the engine was assembled Sep 5, 1978 (11 months later).

This is not common, but long delays did happen for things like an engine needing heavy repair. If so, it would have went to the heavy repair section, and could have sat there a while.

If it is a Sep 5, 1978 assembly, then what you have is a 1979 305, 130 hp, 2bbl, automatic, installed in a 1979 Camaro. September would be the second month of production.

Is there a VIN derivative on the engine pad? What color is the engine, orange or blue?
