Couple of Battery Questions
Saturday I am wrapping up a few things before dropping the motor and transmission in. On the '66 I have no idea whether the battery was previously installed in the correct orientation and did not have correct length cables. The question is, does the pos. or neg. go towards the passenger side fender and which starter mount gets the neg cable? Non a/c big block car

Assuming my car is correct (?) my pass side mounted battery has the + pole to the inside and the - pole to the outside. Poles are at the rear side of the battery.
Unless I'm getting my old cars confused the negative cable usually bolts to the starter motor outside mounting bolt.

Don't know that it is factory correct.

Not correct but I ran my negative cable to the bell housing. If I changed starters, which I have in a parking lot, I don't have to mess with the battery cable other than disconnecting from the battery. I do believe that it is correct to go to the outboard starter mounting bolt.

These are 50 year old cars that have been touched by many expert (and bubba) hands over the decades. Plus, St. Louis was not necessarily right for all conditions down the road.

All answers are correct IF you use a group 24 battery (which you should), if you mistakenly buy a group 24F battery the posts will be reversed
