Default Help decoding differential numbers

The differential is out of a late '63 convertible.

The numbers on the front of the main case are 3899143. The date code on the side of the front nose of the casing is C 2. On the bottom of the casing is AWW 065 E 1.

The rear cover is 3830308 with GM4.

From some goggling, it appears that the rear cover is indeed off of the '63, however, I can not figure out what the main case came out of.

It does appear to be 3.08:1 based on turning the driveshaft input one revolution and counting the turns on the half shaft output.

Thanks in advance for the help!

I just looked in my GM parts book and cannot find that number for the main case...are you sure about the number as i cannot make it out from you photo?

The only "number" in my book is 3917861 for 63-72
It could be a latter case...

my guess would be:

AW= 3.08

W= Warren plant

06= 6th day of year

5= 1975

E= Eaton

1= 1st shift

Thanks for the response. The number is correct. From googling it, it appears it is out of a later '70s corvette. Trying to see if it might have been used in other cars as well.

Ultimately I want to determine how beefy it is and how much HP it can handle!

Thanks for the response. Any idea how the "C 2" on the front nose (which I thought was the date) relates to the assembly date?
