electrical problem
Can anyone help me with the electrical problem I'm having with my 63 vette. Its a 327 4 speed, with a flame thrower distributor, non tach drive.
It would die out completely as I was driving, lights and all, just like pulling the plug on a lamp, then it would come back on, it did that several times. There was a kill switch hooked into the starter wires, so I removed it and conneceted the wires together, thinking i would just eliminate the kill switch, now I have no power to the car at all, no lights, nothing. the battery is good, and I replaced the solenoid, thinking it may have gone bad, but still, nothing, I'm not real good at electrical problems, so I hope that someone can help me figure this out.
Thanks....Bob:

This may be the dreaded "red wire syndrome"....there are two "bulkhead connectors" on the engine side of the firewall, below and to the right of the master cylinder....many times corrosion in these connectors cause the problems you cite. You can disconnect the battery, remove those plugs and check for worn, corroded connections or pushed in pins...
You have to depress both locking tabs on the top and bottom of each connector to wriggle it loose, any indication of greenish deposits is corrosion you need to deal with...
The second pic of my removed bulkhead connector housing shows you the kind of green corrosion common in these parts
