Default '63 Shifter problem?

Any suggestions on what to look for when the 4 speed shifter won't go into reverse? It will shift through all four forward gears with either engine running or stopped and clutch engaged. T handle raises up and appears to be functioning properly.

Unscrew the ball and pull off/out the tee and look at the end of rod, 'could be broken at end'...if the rod is even there...

if unscrewing the **** doesn't work, or does, remove the shifter and clean the 50 + years of grime and rocks out of it.
Reinstall it, adjust properly and try it again. Bet it works.

Thanks 66jack! Removing the ball does not allow the tee to come out. It would be nice if it did as removing the shifter is a pain.

Should have mentioned that the shifter was recently removed, cleaned and lubed with the replacement of a throw-out bearing. Shifter worked fine for several weeks without a problem after that. Was hoping not to have to remove it again but may have to bite the bullet. Thanks!

Your should be able to pull up and remove the tee....maybe the rod is bent at bottom, "TIP" where it slides into position for reverse...

Thanks again for your insight! It does appear that when cleaning the underside I must have bumped the reverse linkage rod backwards and therefore needed to reposition it into the forward position. All is well now!
