Mechanical or electric fuel pump?
I am putting a ZZ502 in my '67 this winter. I planned to use a mechanical fuel pump, but would like to hear what you guys think about using a mechanical vs an electric fuel pump?

last I read 502 do not have a boss for a mechanical fuel pump. did that change? if so I would not over complicate things and run a mechanical fuel pump

The earlier version of the ZZ502 did not have the boss for a mechanical fuel pump, but the newer engines have , and they are also bolt on when using the original z-bar clutch linkage...

My vote mechanical all the way. Finally removed the Holley Red pump from my Camaro where as a pusher it couldn't keep up with the 355. Switched to a Carter 8 psi mechanical pump and it very consistent 7 psi at WOT. And it's quiet. Used to keep an extra bronze geared distributor in the car in case of MSD or gear failure and more than once had to beat on the Red pump with it to get going again.

When I installed electric pump in my GTO I learned to hate it. Nothing but headaches and added noise. Since installing a electric fuel pressure gauge in my corvette I can see how well the mechanical pumps regulate press w/their internal bypass. No regulator, no wiring and no more noise.
I would recommend measuring it for your carbs desired pressure though. And I would choose/find a pump w/correct output pressure so I don't have to use a regulator.
Hope this helps.
