Heater control knobs old guy has a problem

Heater control ***** old guy has a problem
I can get fan **** off it has a screw to loosen but defroster does not
and I can not pull it of?? 1963 . I have to change both cables because
bubba before me cut the cables off ,so I purchased new cables.
My gm manual does not explain,
