The speedometer was very erratic for about 2 miles and then quit. Failed at the connection to the head. The cable itself is 74" long and the jacket is bare steel. To be more correct I need a black cable as I read the judging guide. But most of them are 71". Is that the correct length for my '61 VIN 106531 270HP 4 speed?
Is it a good assumption that the manufacturer will have correctly lubed the cable?
I remember having different vendors spec'ing different lengths for both speedo and tach on my '61. Sorry, I don't remember the details, but it did involve a few 'return' shipments. I think the early and late '61s might have had different lengths/cable jackets. Also, mine is a 3-speed.
I don't think cables come pre-lubed.
You want to use a graphite-based lube like Kable-Ease
I had a time also with my '59, with some return shipments as well. Think I ended up with a purchased housing and a special cable made up by a speedometer shop.
