I was sitting in the garage with the old Corvette and reminiscing about working on the car when we first got it and the changes we've made in the garage to make the work easier. I dug up an old thread I started in 2008 when I was bothered by a small oil leak, and just had to laugh! Now, mind you, I'm still not the neatest and most organized in the garage, but I'm getting there!
Thanks! My wife bought me the lift, and she'll never let me forget that!
When we built the house, we looked around at all the other three car garages around here, and saw that without exception, one stall was filled with lawnmowers and children's bikes. While we have no children, we still needed room for the lawnmower, snowblower and motorcycles. We decided to add the equivalent of two bays width and run it to the back of the house. The only thing we lost was a window out the side of the dining room. We only use the dining room a couple times a year, so it was worth the loss.
Looks good! I've found the quickest way to clean up the garage is to put the car back together!!
When I'm in "thrash" mode mine can get pretty funky too with tools spread everywhere...but when done I always take a couple of hours and put everything back where it belongs!
The garage floor in our new residence has an epoxy coating which is great for being able to clean up any spills, BUT the mixed colors are terrible for being able TO FIND any dropped small parts such as nuts, springs, screws! If I ever do an update to a garage floor, it will be single color!
The car came with a hard top when I bought it. I took it off that first day and it took up space in the garage for several years. Our car was a "soft top only" car, and since I never had use for the hard top, it was sold.
