Here was his problem........trunk mat is wedged in the mechanism...

Ha. Somehow missed the linked thread. My trunk on my 60 wouldn't open either after closing it hard and quickly at a car show. Had my mechanic attack it after pushing, pulling, everything I could think of for a few months. Not sure if they figured out the emblem thing but must have. Anyway my mat was partially caught and the latch was bent and not releasing though key turned to a point it should have released. I had to replace the latch. All good so far. I now make sure the mat is well out of the way.
