Prayers for Bill Hetzel from Reno
My good friend and a fellow member since 2004 died in his sleep Jan23 or so. After not noticing any activity at his home, his neighbor entered his house and found him passed. After he failed to answer phone calls or emails I drove to his home and was met by his neighbor. He lived alone and very hard of hearing. I miss him big time. Please when you have time or remember, say a prayer or two for Bill. Rest in peace my friend.

I'm so sorry to learn this, Joe, but I appreciate your having posted the information.
Never met Bill but he and I shared a love of road racing and communicated about it often.

Hi Joe,
So sorry to hear about Bill. I have been trying to reach him for a few weeks as well. Just spoke to him in late January.
I would call him a few times a month and we would talk about cars and what else he was up to. He loved his Corvettes.
I met Bill many years ago while racing our Crossles and we stayed in touch over the years.
He always referred to you as a great friend.
I will miss him as well. Great guy.

I just heard the news of Bill's passing this evening and it comes as extremely sad news. I had contact with Bill mid January, he was dealing with a leaking roof and we were going to help fix it as soon as the weather broke.
Bill was a superb guy I met through SCCA racing, he taught me a lot on race car setup and in recent years he accompanied and helped me at track events. He was meticulous in his approach to both race car preparation and his 67 Corvette restoration. On a limited budget he would amaze me on his ability to restore parts with pure focus and determination.
He always spoke fondly of his visits to Joe's workshop and was full of energy recounting what Joe was up to.
He will be sadly missed, Rest in Peace my dear friend.
Julian

OK, I know this is old, but thank you for this news. This comes as quite a shock and I am very saddened from the news. Bill was a neat guy and very knowledgeable. My wife and I spent a few days with him back during a trip to California. He showed us around Reno and the area and was just the best host. I was hoping that he had just gotten really busy working on his 67 or the other racecars he seemed to always have around.

Losing a friend is one of the toughest things we face in life. My Father in Law lived to be 96 years old. One day about a year before he passed, he said to me with a tear in his eye, “All of my friends are gone.”
The longer we live, the more we are going to experience this sadness.
My my prayers are with you for the loss of your friend.
