[C2] WTF - different tail light sockets?

I'm in the process up updating my tail lights and noted that the pig tails look very different.

What up with that? Perhaps the new housing have the requisite grooves and are different from the originals?

Anyone?

That is the pig tail end that gets inserted into the tail light housing. As you can see the original has a notch. The repro has splines on two sides suggesting grooves in the socket - however my sockets in my old housings are round - no notches or slots. Nuttin.

I hope to buy new housings so perhaps they will be different and fit the new pigtails?

Aha! Mine don't have that notch. I'm betting Bubba was there at some point. One more reason to get new housings.
