Hi all,
I've searched on here, but I'm not entirely sure I found what I needed. Car is a 67 427/400. Here's the problem... Car starts fine and idles high when cold. However, after the car is warm, I could usually blip the throttle to get the idle down. Now, no amount of "blips" is able to get the idle back down. When I take a look at the linkage on the passenger side, I see that the "tang" only ever touches the bottom of the plastic piece. It does not appear that it is able to touch the "steps". It does appear that the steps are worn. Hope this makes sense. So, I guess I'm looking for guidance in terms of what would solve this issue and where exactly the tang should be when the car is cold. I will certainly clarify anything if needed!
On a cold motor and cool day, after depressing the throttle once, the tang should be resting on the top step of the cam. After starting and thoroughly warmed up, the tang should be off the cam and not touching it - and the idle speed screw is holding the throttle idle setting. The cam will be rotated out of the way of the tang by the choke rod pushing/pulling (not sure which on tri-power) the choke plate vertical (fully open).

Another question about this. When the engine is completely warmed up where should the fast idle screw be in relation to the cam? On the bottom step or off the cam completely?
Nice article but my carburetor is a Carter AFB and completely different from the Holly. I think the fast idle screw is supposed to be off the cam, but I am not sure.
