Default C2 and C3 Jacks

I have a question to pose to the membership.

Is a stock c3 jack interchangeable with a C2 jack? By that I mean will a c3 jack fit into the jack holder found in the well behind the drivers seat in a C2.

I am looking for a stock jack for my driver quality c2. I found a jack listed on Ebay as a "1963-1982 corvette jack and wrench and hold down spring early c3". Is this description correct? Does a C3 have the same dimensions of a C2 jack? Based on the ad in Ebay would it be reasonable to assume that the C3 jack would fit into C2 the same way that a C2 would fit into the jack holder in the well behind the drivers seat?

Any information would be helpful.

I wouldn't consider buying a jack for actual use on lifting my 67. To me, a jack in a C2 is more for judging, buy a good road service contract, ie: AAA or Hagerty Road Service.

You should be able to fit the later jack, into a 63-67 jack compartment.

68's used a jack very similar to the 66-67 Type 3. The 69-82 jack has a wider base, but it's still not that much different in size than the 63-68 jacks. 63-68's used a 5 1/4" long jack spring, the 69-82's used a 5 1/2" long spring. A quarter inch isn't much, but I would think that if you can't pull your original spring far enough to secure a later jack, then a switch to the 69-82 spring, should do the job.

While it is not correct for your C2, I think the wider base on the C3 jack makes it a bit safer should you actually have to use it to fix a roadside flat. Also as I'm sure you've already discovered, a C3 jack can be had for a third of the price of a C2 jack in comparable condition.

Thanks for the information.

Do you know if a C3 jack will fit in the C2 well behind the drivers seat? I am trying to determine if the long screw that goes threw the jack is longer on the C3 than the C2.

I am trying find missing parts for the C2 that was recently purchased. It was missing the jack. I am starting to think that the C3 jack is not the same dimensions as a C2. A C3 jack that does not fit in the jack holder for the C2 will not work for me.

It is good to know that the C3 has a wider base. Understand about the safety of the jack. I do have AAA road service.

Thanks for your help.

There are some c3 jacks that are a bit longer and will not fit in the c2 storage well.
Measure before you buy.

I believe the 69-75 jack base plates were 9" x 5" with a top plate which measured 5 1/2" x 2 1/8"

Starting in 1976 the base was 9" x 4 3/4" and the top plate was 5 1/2" x 1 3/8".

I'm not sure about the 68 dimensions. All I know is that the base is smaller and more like the C2 jacks.

The only jack I have here is an 81 jack, which fully collapsed is 15" wide.

Since 1970, the Corvette Parts Books have indicated that the 69-82 jacks can be used in place of earlier jacks, by using the longer hold down spring. I can't say for sure if the later jacks will fit in the 63-67 well, but Chevrolet seemed to indicate that they will?

which is why I indicated earlier that if you are not going to get the car judged, why spend that amount of money on something you don't see, most likely will never use and is unsafe.

It's a 65-70 Mustang jack. The first repro's of the mid-year Corvette jacks, were made by converting those Mustang jacks, into Corvette jacks.

Good used ones sell for $50-$75.

Thanks for the pics and information. Can you tell me how long the jack is when in the full down position? Is it less than 15 5/8 inches? Measure the widest point of the jack in the full down position. I think a C3 jack is 15 5/8 inches which means that a C3 jack is too wide to fit in the C2 well in back of the front seat. Your measurement should answer the riddle.
